Sungutter is a dystopian 3D sci-fi comic that’s complemented by painted 2D compositing. Writing a story and coming up with all the rules of a fictional universe forces you to focus on designing functional assets, characters and environments based on the world you have built. This started as an excuse for me to get better at producing concept art, but I've enjoyed working on it a bunch, and I'm now working towards releasing it as a web-comic. Here are a few pieces of concept art, as well as a few panels, test renders and rough sketches.
