Furdu 2023 "retro gaming" (vr)
FurDu is an Australian organization that hosted an event themed around retro gaming in 2023. I decided to take a novel approach to the theming for their project by setting the environment inside of a video game that the player is teleported into shortly after spawning. I took inspiration from the graphics found in games for fifth generation consoles, but also hid plenty of references to NES games.. This world's stylized aesthetic was a fun challenge and is one of my favourite professional projects I've worked on to date.
-
Created systems for generating my own procedural pixel art textures and wrote custom shaders to make a stylized audio reactive club environment (you can see more about that here).
-
Created tons of pixel art graphics and assets and designed, modelled and textured everything.
-
Designed a variety of locations for streaming different content from the physical event.
-
Created a separate android build of the project to ensure cross-compatibility.
-
Created game systems and minigames inside the world which encouraged players to smash crates and collect emeralds, solve puzzles and perform parkour to discover new areas and secrets.
-
Maintained the highest standards for optimization and performance.

The framerate on my mid range PC was maxed out in every part of the world and it maintained an insanely small download size of 26mb due to heavy optimizations. I was pleased with the end result and it was extremely gratifying to get positive feedback from the client and their attendees.

Tales of terror (2022) (vr)
A Halloween themed mixed reality music event that allowed both VR and in person DJ's to play at the same event. This was the first documented event where VR DJ's were projected live as a hologram onto the stage at a parallel physical event and in person DJ's were live streamed to a portal in the VR world. The world also supported live visuals and camera feeds to allow VR users and attendees to see and interact with one another.

-
Geometry / models were inspired by the neo-gothic architecture found around Sydney.
-
Utilized audio-reactive shaders alongside live visuals to create a dynamic environment for attendees.
-
Procedurally generated all materials and used geometry nodes to randomly generate the trees in the scene.
-
Managed design requirements and worked directly with the event's AV team to ensure that all video feeds met all of the client's needs.

Furdu 2022 "pIRATE COVE" (vr)
FurDu is an Australian organization that hosted an event themed around pirates in 2022. I decided to set the environment in a small pirate cove with terrain that was heavily inspired by the twelve apostles, but there were plenty of other Australian Easter eggs hidden around the map.

-
Designed, modelled and textured all assets and created a stylized environment as per the client's requirements.
-
Focused on ensuring the world was comfortable, encouraged players to explore, and ran well on mid-low range PCs.
-
Used post-processing volumes and vertical space while designing to create engaging and interactive environments.
